PETALING JAYA: Three hundred lucky visitors will receive free MyRapid cards during the Klang Valley’s LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) Open Day this weekend.

LEP project and asset owner, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, will be giving out 10 cards hourly at its booth, totalling 100 cards daily from Feb 10 to 12.

Prasarana group managing director Datuk Shahril Mokhtar said the MyRapid cards, currently used by commuters taking the Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines, would be given out as a gesture to thank its customers for supporting the LEP.

He said the LEP Open Day would be held as part of Subang Jaya Municipal Council’s (MPSJ) 15th Year Anniversary Celebrations Carnival at Sunway Pyramid.

Work on the LEP commenced in 2010 and is expected to finish in 2014.

It was established by the Government to help transform public transportation services and its new stations along the Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines would incorporate facilities for the disabled including ramps, tactile tiles and low ticket counters.

“The LEP will enhance mobility and, hopefully, help ease traffic congestion in Subang Jaya in particular,” Shahril added, describing it as a massive project.

The LEP involves extending both the Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines operated by RapidKL by 12 and 11 new stations respectively.

TRANSIT Says:

We hope that the open day will be an opportunity for Prasarana to share more information with the public about the LRT Extension Programme, as well as proposals for expansion to local public transport and feeder bus services in MPSJ areas (Subang Jaya, USJ, Puchong, Serdang and Kinrara.

The more information the public has now, the more confident the public will be about public transport – meaning that they will be ready and willing to use the feeder buses & local bus services to get around their community and get to the LRT lines – rather than driving directly to the LRT stations and causing the congestion that the LRT is supposed to diminish – not to mention, the illegal parking that residents and the public are hoping to avoid.

Enhancing mobility and reducing congestion is about more than just building LRT and other rail lines.
