Rawang-Seremban Komuter service to have women-only coach, too (The Star)
KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is to introduce the women-only coach on its Rawang-Seremban Komuter Service on Saturday.
KTMB president Dr Aminuddin Adnan said Wednesday the decision was made after positive feedback for a similar coach introduced on its Sentul-Port Klang Komuter Service on April 28.
KTMB would hold a news conference on Friday to reveal the results of the survey pertaining to the positive feedback and accept views to improve the standard of the women-only coach service, he told reporters after launching the KTMB Security and Health Day.
Aminuddin said the women-only coach would not be introduced on the KTM inter-city services as there was no congestion on these trains, but added that the situation would be constantly monitored.
Asked about KTMB’s efforts to improve the standard of its Komuter service, which was said to be inefficient and stalling often, he said KTMB was refurbishing 15 units of the EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) by the first or second quarter of next year. “Twenty-eight of our EMU are more than 15 years old and it is time to refurbish them. That is why there are breakdowns during service. We are refurbishing 15 units first,” he said. He also said that KTMB had completed the purchase of 38 units of EMU and that they would be received in stages, with the first set expected to arrive at the end of next year. – Bernama

There you go. After the recent comments by the Prime Minister expressing his pleasure with the women-only coaches, it was no surprise that KTM would feel confident in expanding the system to the Rawang-Seremban line.

still refurbishing?? and receive by next year?? I thought they have been refurbishing since last year. Does it take such a long time? I wonder why KTM plays different musics whenever there are numerous complaints.

Thanks for your comment. We also had heard about the refurbishment plan in mid-2008.
According to another interview published on the 13th, the agreement has just been signed for 15 trains. Perhaps these 15 were the only ones that could be salvaged.
One complicating factor is that KTMB is 100% owned by the Finance Ministry (and they provide funding for expansion) but most of the purchasing decisions are coming from the Ministry of Transport.
