TRANSIT received these photos of a new kerb put in place at the loading/unloading area opposite Kelana Jaya LRT station.
This area has been notorious for congestion especially during afternoon hours, as people, buses and taxi drivers wait to pick up passengers from the LRT.
It got so bad that buses were dropping off passengers as soon as they hit the backed up traffic – sometimes 100-yards from the station entrance. A sign was placed along the LDP to warn people against dropping off passengers outside of the loading/unloading bay – including the threat of a police fine / compound of RM300 – and as you can imagine, it made no difference.
The poor design of the loading/unloading bay opposite Kelana Jaya LRT station is something that needs to be resolved properly. While the kerb does make a small difference, more effort is clearly needed.
The photo shows that drivers are still clustered to the near end of the loading bay, when they ought to move further. RapidKL should place signs at the end of the kerb for RapidKL buses and a sign should be placed to indicate where the taxi queue should begin.
TRANSIT also does not like the idea of bus passengers having to cross a lane to board their bus – and the size of the kerb is quite small – barely wide enough for a person to stand on comfortably and safely.
Litrak and RapidKL, this is a good start but you can do better.
