STUDY ON “A STUDY ON AN INTERGRATED [Sic.] PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM FOR THE KLANG VALLEY” – To Obtain the Residence’s [Sic.] Feedback on Public Transport.

A friend forwarded this to the attention of TRANSIT.

STUDY ON “A STUDY ON AN INTERGRATED PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM FOR THE KLANG VALLEY” – To Obtain the Residence’s Feedback on Public Transport.

Reference is made to the above matter. We, Perunding Trafik Klasik Sdn. Bhd. have been appointed by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad to conduct a Study on An Integrated Public Transport System in the Klang Valley.

As part of our study , we would like to receive comments from various parties including the users of public transport system regarding the usage of public transport in the Klang valley.

Therefore, we wish to be able to have a forum with representatives of the communities and resident’s association at a suitable venue and time.

Attached please find the copy of the Letter of Award from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad.

Do reply us as soon as possible. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

TRANSIT says:

If the government has a public transport plan, why are they engaging a consultant at what is effectively the last minute?  Now that the plans have been divised and the decisions have been made, they want to make a show and have a “public” consultation which usually means quiet discussion out of the public eye.

TRANSIT has stated very clearly that public transport planning must involve the ideas and the feedback of the public – the passengers and consumers who use the service on a daily basis.

The consultant has done significant work for the government in the past, including a Study on an Integrated Bus Routing System in the Klang Valley for the Ministry of Finance back in 2003. [TRANSIT will try to post a copy of this study to our website]

It may be that the original plans for the RapidKL bus service were developed from this study.

But once again, we state clearly that engaging the public must occur early, not after the project has been planned.  Right now we are not confident that this public consultation is anything more than public relations.

The fact that no date, time, or venue have been confirmed yet, does not encourage our confidence. But, we will do our best to keep you updated.
