KTMB to allow motorcycles and bicycles on Komuter trains?

KTMB sedia gerabak motosikal

TRANSIT says:

The above is a very interesting proposal from KTMB. For the first time they are talking about promoting the “intermodal” service, encouraging passengers to use bicycles and motorcycles.

The 13 trains described in the article refers to the 5 electric trains purchased for the KL-Ipoh Fast Train Service as well as 8 new electric trains purchased for the KTM Komuter service.

Encouraging intermodal service will make the KTM intercity and komuter trains more appealing to customers, who will now be able to bring their vehicles with them on the train.
Transit hopes that KTMB and RapidKL will also do the following:
  • permit folding bicycles to be used on Komuter and LRT & Monorail trains
  • build more bicycle locks/lockers
  • encourage local councils to build bicycle paths and motorcycle lanes to reach the stations

It has been 7 months since the announcement was made by KTMB.

What is the current progress? We really look forward to use our folding bicycles as a means of effective intermodal transport.

Would like to know of transport charges for transporting a motorbike yamaha 135 LC, 135cc to Butterworth from KL & how long it can be stored inside ktm store/Butterworth ?

TQ.

Hi Moaz

So are we allowed to bring bicycles (full sized ones) on-board KTM commuter trains?

Also, could you suggest rapidkl to install bike racks for buses and have KTM invest in sufficient signage in promoting the allowance of bike on trains.

Hi @bicycle user.

You cannot bring full-sized bicycles onto KTM Komuter trains at this time. They are far too congested at all hours of the day to allow this. However, you can try to bring a folding bicycle during off-peak hours.

As for bike racks on buses, we are going to see if we can encourage RapidPenang to take the lead in installing bike racks on their buses. Given that there is very little of a feeder bus network, and also no bicycle station infrastructure, but there is growing demand for bicycles, we can see the potential for growth.

Regards, Moaz for TRANSIT
