Puduraya: Operations moves to Bukit Jalil from 12 April (Update #2)

TRANSIT notes this announcement from Bernama regarding the status of the Puduraya terminal upgrading project and the planned shift of bus operations away from Puduraya

Puduraya Terminal Bus Operations To Move Temporarily To Bukit Jalil Beginning April 12

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (BERNAMA) — All bus services to the north and the south that are now operating from the Puduraya Terminal will move to a temporary terminal at Bukit Jalil (Parking Lot F) besides the hockey stadium beginning April 12.

According to the acting manager of corporate communications of Uda Holdings Berhad, Zuhaznim Izzudin, the move was to smoothen the renovation and upgrading of the Puduraya Terminal that will be completed in four months.

She said however taxi services to Genting Highlands and hired vehicles headed for the north and south would still operate from the Puduraya Terminal.

“Travellers can proceed to the temporary terminal using public transport like the LRT, taxis and buses and in that regard RapidKL bus service will be provided from the Puduraya Terminal to Bukit Jalil and back at 15-minute intervals,” she said in a statement Tuesday.

Zuhaznim said food stalls and trading stalls, as well as surau and public toilets, will be provided in the area of the Bukit Jalil Hockey Stadium beside the temporary terminal.

She said for the convenience of travellers information counters would be at the Puduraya Terminal and the temporary Bukit Jalil terminal and all information regarding the move can be got on the hotlines 03-20787017 and 03-20786018.

Well, there you have it. Perhaps the temporary terminal near Jalan Hang Tuah can be used as a depot for city buses, since the express buses will be at Bukit Jalil.

We will follow up on this posting soon with some details of our correspondence with DBKL, the Federal Territories Ministry and UDA Mall (owner of Puduraya) soon.

Thanks for your comment. Clearly we have to find a cost-effective balance between providing service during the late hours and giving the staff enough time to do their maintenance and checks.

In the case of the Putra LRT (Kelana Jaya Line) and the LRT system in general, we do see greater value in having services operating later, past midnight. We also would like to see a complete night-bus or ‘night-rider’ service as is common in other cities.

Chin – as far as we know, the refurbishment project will take another 4 months.

Expect the temporary terminal to be open until after the Musim Perayaan. Puduraya may be reopened in time for the Balik Kampung season.

Of course, we will try to get an official confirmation from UDA Mall on the dates.

i’m wondering how can i go to the bus terminal once i arrive bukit jalil lrt station? Is the bus terminal is just a working distance from bt jalil lrt station?

The bus terminal is within ‘walking distance’* of the LRT station – turn right at the exit and walk in the direction of the Hockey stadium – Parking lot F is nearby and should be clear from the traffic jam & buses.

Do take care when crossing and keep an eye out for drivers who are unfamiliar with the area – whether in cars or buses.

*please note that ‘walking distance’ depends on the level of humidity and presumed mobility. ‘Walking distances’ are different for different people.

I’m from Kedah and frequently travel to KL on work purposes. Normally i use a bus from my hometown to Puduraya and i can easily get a next bus to Putrajaya (which located at Mydin opposite Maybank).Is the same transport provider (to Putrajaya) also shift their operation to Bukit Jalil?

As far as we know, the only buses that have shifted their operations from the Puduraya area to Bukit Jalil are the express buses. To travel from Bukit Jalil to Putrajaya the rail option would be to take the LRT back to Bandar Tasik Selatan, then take the KLIA Transit train to Putrajaya Sentral.

Alternatively, RapidKL may have their bus service between KL and Putrajaya stop in the Bukit Jalil area – but we do not have the details. Contact RapidKL at their hotline or suggest@rapidkl.com.my

hi…i would like to know which lrt is nearer to the temporary bus station at bkt jalil…is it the seri petaling lrt station or bukit jalil lrt station?

Sorry but we do not have any answer for you. Our suggestion would be to take the bus from KL Sentral just to be on the safe side.

If you can, take the LRT from Hang Tuah station to Bukit Jalil station and then walk the short walk to the bus terminal. It will be faster for you and less of a hassle since you will avoid all of the traffic congestion.

The fastest way to Bukit Jalil would be one of the following two options:

1. Taxi from KL Sentral to Bukit Jalil – if the driver uses the KL-Putrajaya highway you should be able to get to Bukit Jalil in 15-20 minutes (depending on traffic congestion). At this time we do not know what the coupon prices are at KL Sentral but be prepared to pay between RM20 and RM30.

2. KLIA Transit to Bandar Tasik Selatan (RM4.20) followed by LRT to Bukit Jalil (RM0.70)

All of the bus services from Puduraya have moved to the Bukit Jalil terminal, so there must be an express bus to Kedah operating there.

While we have not measured it exactly, the entrance to the parking lot appears to be 500m or so from the LRT station.

As for coming from KLCC, there is no direct public transport. You would have to get to Bukit Nanas Monorail station, and take the monorail to Hang Tuah, then take the Ampang LRT to Bukit Jalil LRT station or Plaza Rakyat LRT station (for the shuttle bus).

A taxi from KLCC to Bukit Jalil Lot F can take between 20-60 minutes outside of peak hours, depending on traffic conditions.

The fare depends on whether you get a meter taxi or not, whether the driver uses the meter or not, and what roads the driver chooses to take.

We would expect to pay between RM20 and RM30 for a metered taxi between KLCC and Bukit Jalil Lot F.

As far as we know, the operating hours are 6:00-12:30 but we may be wrong. Perhaps a reader can confirm these times for us.

Option 1: Take the monorail from Medan Tunku to Hang Tuah LRT station (cost RM1.60 for a 1way trip) then switch to the LRT from Hang Tuah to Bukit Jalil (cost RM1.90 for a 1way).
Total Cost = RM1.60 + RM1.90 = RM2.50

Option 2: Walk to Sultan Ismail LRT station off Jalan Sultan Ismail and take the LRT from Sultan Ismail to Bukit Jalil (cost RM 1.90).

Option 3: Walk to Sultan Ismail LRT station and take the LRT to Plaza Rakyat (RM1.20). At Plaza Rakyat, transfer to the shuttle bus directly to Bukit Jalil terminal (cost RM2.00 for a 1way trip).
Total Cost = RM1.20 + RM2.00 = RM3.20

Clearly option 2 is the best to save you some money and less time spent transferring between monorail/LRT and LRT/Shuttle Bus. However, you may have to walk some distance depending on how far away you are from Sultan Ismail LRT station.

er…walk out from the Tune Hotel and cross Jalan Sultan Ismail heading towards the Maju Junction mall. Turn right as soon as you cross the road and walk for about 100m. Stop and wait at the traffic lights of Jalan Raja Laut. Once you cross Jalan Raja Laut, walk another 50 m and the LRT station will be on your left side.

Alternatively, turn right onto Sultan Ismail and cross at Raja Laut, as seen in these Google Maps directions

I was checking the rate for KLIA Transit to get to KLIA from KL Sentral and noticed the big difference in the fare. KL Sentral to KLIA costs RM35 whereas KL Sentral to Salak Tinggi is RM12.50 and Salak Tinggi to KLIA is only RM3.20. Why?

We’re not sure – although one possibility might be that they are attempting to encourage people who work at or near KLIA to park at Salak Tinggi and take the train from there, rather than driving to KLIA directly.

As you know, there are huge numbers of people who work at airports or in industries that are directly related to, or dependent on the presence of the airport – with the poor state of public transport, the number of drivers would be very high.

That said, it does seem like it would be cheaper to take a 1-way trip from KL Sentral to Salak Tinggi, get off, leave the station, purchase a ticket for RM3.20, go back in, and wait for the next train to arrive.

As you would expect, we will contact the ERL company with your question.

We’ll have a vacation from Jakarta-KL-Singapore-KL-Jakarta. We’ll use an express bus from Singapore and stop at Bukit Jalil Std. then continue our journey to get back to Jakarta from LCCT. Could you please suggest us the fastest way to get to LCCT either by Taxi or by bus and how much is the cost. we will arrive at Bukit Jalil at 07.00 am and we have to arrive at LCCT minimum at 08.00 am. So please gives us suggestion on what kind of transportation should we use (the fastest way).

In reality, that would depend a lot on the taxi driver, the time of day and the congestion level.

Assuming you have a taxi driver who is willing to use the meter without a confrontation, you should expect to pay around RM 15 for the trip.

This is based on the RM3 flagfall rate plus the existing rate for every km. The total length of the trip is 13 km.

Puduraya is still closed and the project was supposed to be completed “by November” which could mean the beginning of the month, but more likely the end of the month.

We at TRANSIT are not expecting Puduraya to reopen until December, perhaps by the end of 2010. However, we will check back with UDA and our contacts for a status update.

The distance between Bukit Jalil and KL Sentral is about 14km, and the cost should be around RM14-15 assuming that the taxi driver uses the meter.

i ve to reach kl sentral to take skybus at 2.00am, how can i go from bukit jalil to kl sentral, if by cab how much at midnight charge, can i go by lrt? what is the schedule for it, it is punctual?

The cost of a taxi should be approximately RM10-12 using the meter at that time (because of the reduced traffic) – but the midnight charge is 100% so you should expect to pay RM25 – assuming of course that you can get the taxi driver to use the meter.

I would like to know which way would take me faster from shah alam. Im driving there and can I take the bridge from sunway and go straight.. Would i lead to LDP toll then as per ur map? Please advice..

It would depend on where you are in Shah Alam, and how much you are willing to pay.

If you can get to the KESAS highway from Shah Alam (perhaps using the local road to avoid the KESAS toll), then you still have to pay the Sunway toll and Awan Besar toll on KESAS. That will cost you RM4.40 in total but it will be faster than taking the Federal Highway + LDP + KESAS combination (which will cost you RM1.60 + 2.20 = 3.80).

what are the safest parking options if we want to leave the car overnight and travel outstation by bus?any park n ride concept? cab fare in the early hours are a nightmare and need to bargain, need someone to regulate the cab fare arnd here. some travelers take the late night bus to arrive early morning in order to safe a day of travelling

Unfortunately we cannot comment on the options as we cannot predict what is safe or not safe. However, we do know that there are car parks at Hentian Duta and Hentian Putra for those who might be coming from the north and do not wish to leave their vehicle outside at Bukit Jalil.

There is a shuttle bus from Hentian Duta to Bukit Jalil for the moment.

We will try to find out more about overnight parking at RapidKL stations and in the upgraded Puduraya which should be reopening soon.

All buses that used Puduraya have shifted to Bukit Jalil. We expect that bus services would shift back to Puduraya before the end of 2010.

Plz advise. When is Puduraya going to reopen again? Look like there’s no news. This is way beyond the projected time mentioned in the newspaper. It is really inconvenient for those of us coming from PJ to be taking our buses in Bukit Jalil.

There has been hearsay from officials that the new Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Transport Terminal (now known as Terminal Bersepadu Selatan/TBS) will be officiated by the Prime Minister this January 2011. All express buses previously assigned to Bukit Jalil will shift operations to Bandar Tasik Selatan very soon.

Do you want to take a bus or use the LRT + ERL combination?

It is probably easiest to take the LRT from Bukit Jalil to Bandar Tasik Seletan station. There you have the option of KTM Komuter to Kajang (with transfer to Nadi Putra buses) or ERL to Putrajaya Sentral (with Nadi Putra buses & taxi service available at Putrajaya Sentral).

The total one-way trip would be as little as RM4-6 (all buses) or as much as RM10-12 (LRT + ERL + bus).

We cannot give you an accurate estimate of the cost of a direct taxi but with meter it should be close to RM20 (and you have no ride coming back unless you pay ask the driver to wait.

From the LCCT you can take the ERL bus which will take you to Salak Tinggi ERL Station. From there, you can take the ERL to Bandar Tasik Selatan, then change to the LRT to Bukit Jalil.

If (by any chance) you are intending to take a bus southbound, you might want to take a few minutes at Bandar Tasik Selatan to walk over to the new Terminal Bersepadu and check if there is a bus to your destination.

By LRT, take the Ampang line from Bukit Jalil station to Masjid Jamek interchange (cost, RM1.90)

At Masjid Jamek interchange, switch to the Kelana Jaya Line (underground) and take the Kelana Jaya line to KL Sentral station (cost RM1.30).

The total cost will be RM1.90 + RM1.30 = RM2.20

By now, we expect that bus services to Melaka should be shifted to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, not Bukit Jalil. However, there are no larger bus companies operating at TBS yet.

You will have to get to the Ampang LRT to get to Bukit Jalil.

The first option is to take the Kelana Jaya LRT from KLCC station to Masjid Jamek station (RM1.60), then switch to the Ampang LRT to Bukit Jalil (RM1.90).

The total cost of your 1-way ticket would be RM3.90.

Alternatively, you can take the Kelana Jaya LRT from KLCC to Dang Wangi (RM1.30), walk to Bukit Nanas monorail station and take the monorail from Dang Wangi to Hang Tuah (RM1.60) and the LRT from Hang Tuah to Bukit Jalil (RM1.90).

Depending on how far you are willing to walk, you could also take the monorail to Hang Tuah directly.
