TRANSIT took note of this article, sharing some happy news related to the KL Monorail – a couple who connected while working on the KL Monorail has decided to get married on the monorail.
With all the bad news related to public transport, it is nice to share the occasional piece of good news – even if it is not related to public transport service, or planning, or policy, or financing, or any of the other issues that TRANSIT regularly looks at.
You might say that this wedding story provided a happy, special occasion for us as well. And so, we wish the happy couple all the best as they continue down the track to lifelong bliss.
KUALA LUMPUR: They met by chance while working on the KL Monorail project five years ago. Yesterday, accountant-to-be Fanny Kok walked off the train as Mrs Nathawat Khunprasit.
In the first marriage solemnisation of its kind, the couple exchanged vows and was declared husband-and-wife onboard a 10-minute train ride running between three monorail stations.
The newly-weds also invited a monk to perform blessings onboard the two-car monorail, specially chartered for the occasion.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by about 70 people consisting of family members, friends and the media.
Nathawat, a Thai national, said they met in 2006 when they were working on the monorail project on separate roles.
“The first time I laid eyes on her, I was attracted by her calm and quiet demeanour but I did not pursue my feelings until about two years later,” said Nathawat, in his 40s, who now heads the systems engineering department at Scomi Rail Berhad.
Kok, 27, who is now pursuing her ACCA qualification, described her groom as her best friend.
“I am glad we are able to share this special occasion in such a unique and fun way and in the presence of our loved ones,” she said.
After signing the marriage certificate on the train, Kok performed the mandatory bridal bouquet throw for aspiring brides at the Titiwangsa station.
The couple and their guests later alighted at the Medan Tuanku station and walked to a hotel for a dinner reception.
“The monorail, which kicked off our love story, is a symbol of success in this city. It is an honour for us to share in this success through our work and our love,” Nathawat said.
